What We’re About... |

About Us And Our Winemaking Approach Hi, and thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about us. We are Jim and Maribeth Jacobson and we hail from the heart of California’s world renown central growing region. As 3rd Generation grape growers we can call upon long experience in the cultivation of the very best fruit from the land. Our philosophies in producing wine are based around Jim’s favorite quotes, “Quality begins in the vine” and “The real work is done in the vineyard”. It is not possible to make good wine with poor fruit, proving the old adage that “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear”. To ensure quality, we minimize the need for insecticides through the use of organic practices and food grade fertilizers. So, what of our vineyard? We have 40 acres of vines planted in the rolling hills on the west side of Paso Robles. The land and climate here are just perfect for growing fruit to make stellar red wines. It’s no accident that wines from the Central Coast of California are becoming increasingly recognized for their quality and taste. Our vines, planted in 1996, consist predominately of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Barbera, Zinfandel & Merlot. Once the fruit is harvested, we hand craft every lot of wine. We use small open top fermentors and barrel age for 2 or more years in American and French Oak. Wines are gravity fed and are only pumped twice from field to bottle. At Doce Robles the quality of our fruit is paramount: And we have the experience, location and methods to deliver consistently high quality fruit. All of which leads to great tasting wine. Try some - We think you’ll agree! Your Wine Tasting Experience With Us Arriving at our tasting room you’ll be greeted by the sight of our three lazy German Shepherds, Duchess, Syrah & Ellie. We often have a fourth visiting dog in Butler, another German Shepherd—He’s part of the family and just loves chasing any piece of wood—from a stick to a full size log! You may just have to step over them when entering the tasting room. Inside you’ll likely find another of our pet family - Grayson the cat, who often spends the daylight hours curled up in a basket on the end of the tasting bar. To complete our menagerie, we have Trickem the horse, but don’t worry, he’s not kept in the tasting room. We encourage a very casual approach to wine tasting. So, belly up to our long bar and feel free to stay a while, shoot the breeze and ask more about our wine making philosophies. Or check out the eclectic range of gifts we have on offer whilst good ol’ rock and roll plays on the radio. We’re known around here as the “party winery”, and we’re happy with that! We have regular wine makers dinners and other events. So, if you want to join us just call us for our event schedule—We’d really love to see you! |
